Online Tournaments

Tournament Overview
Tournaments are LIVE events. You are expected to be present through the entire event as long as you are still alive. If you have any questions, ask them in the Discord #Tournament Room.  We're a friendly bunch and everyone is very helpful.
Mondays and Thursdays
  • Twin Cities Backgammon Club members only
  • Formats
    • Monday 6:00 PM: Single elimination: 9 point matches
    • Thursday 7:00 PM: Single elimination with full progressive consolation 
      1st round - 7points, Consolation -  5 points (guaranteed 2 matches.)  
      ​The consolation round will be defined by random draw after everyone has finished their first match.
  • $10 - Entry Fee (Newcomers get a 50% discount until you win your first match)
  • Optional Side Pools: $10 and/or $20
Every Other Saturday
Visit the US Backgammon Club to play in their weekend events, which are held every other Saturday.  Learn more, visit usbackgammon.club  
 
How to Enter the Tournament
  1. You will need four free online accounts
  • a free Discord account to communicate.  See our FAQ for information on how to set up and test Discord
  • a free Challonge account to report your results. www.challonge.com
  • a free BackgammonGalaxy account to play your matches. www.backgammongalaxy.com
    (Ignore Galaxy's tournaments. We just play our matches there.) 
  • a free Venmo account to pay your entry fees and collect your winnings. www.venmo.com
  1. Entry deadline is 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  2. To enter, send your entry fee and optional side pool payment through Venmo: Monday and Saturday Tournament, send to @MMesich (last 4 digits of phone 8286); Thursday Tournament, send to @Spencemeister (last 4 digits of phone 0664).  Please indicate the date of tournament you are entering in your Venmo payment note.   
  3. Log into the Twin Cities Backgammon Club Discord channel 15 min before start time and join the Tournament voice channel. We will have announcements during that time.
  4. The bracket will be posted on the brackets page at the scheduled start time
  5. You will receive an email notification from www.challonge.com that you have been "challonged" in a tournament. Accept the "challonge" and you are ready to go.

Connect With Your Opponent
When you are matched with an opponent, the assigned table for your match appears above your names. Click on the Table # in Discord and you will have a private "room" to talk with your opponent.

How to Play
The default site is BackgammonGalaxy.com, please use the Casual Clock settings.

How to Report
The winner is responsible to report their win in the bracket by clicking the report icon on your match in the bracket on on the brackets page or on www.challonge.com.  If you have any problems just ask in the #Tournament Room and we'll help you out.
